What Is Data Bridge

Overview of the Kanta Data Bridge for importing external data.

The Kanta Data Bridge is the integration layer between Kanta and your existing Laboratory Information System (LIS) or Hospital Information System (HIS). It allows Kanta's analytics, TAT tracking, and QC dashboards to use your existing system's data — without replacing it.

Why Data Bridge exists

Most laboratories in East Africa already have a LIS (e.g. OpenELIS, DHIS2 LIMS, MEDITECH, or a locally built system). Switching systems is expensive, risky, and disruptive. Data Bridge lets you keep your existing system while gaining Kanta's analytics and intelligence layer on top of it.

Without Data Bridge: Kanta operates as a standalone platform. Data is entered directly into Kanta (reception, result entry, QC, billing).

With Data Bridge: Your existing LIS remains the system of record. Kanta reads data from it via import or API connection, and displays analytics, TAT metrics, and reports without requiring double-entry.

Two connection modes

ModeHow it worksBest for
File ImportYou export a CSV/Excel file from your LIS and upload it to Kanta on a scheduleLIS systems with no API access; simple, no IT setup required
Live ConnectionKanta connects to your LIS via API or database query in real timeLIS systems with an API; gives live dashboards without manual uploads

What Data Bridge can import

  • Patient demographics (for TAT attribution)
  • Test orders and requested tests
  • Sample receipt timestamps
  • Test results (for TAT calculation and doctor volume analysis)
  • Revenue / billing data

Data Bridge does not import QC records — QC is always entered directly in Kanta because it must be attributed to a specific Kanta user for accountability.

Data privacy

All data imported via Data Bridge is stored in Kanta's encrypted database and is subject to the same access controls as data entered directly. Data is not shared with third parties. See the Privacy Policy for details.
