QC Overview

Introduction to quality control monitoring in Kanta.

Kanta's QC module tracks internal quality control (IQC) for your analysers. It supports both quantitative QC (mean/SD-based, Levey-Jennings, Westgard rules) and qualitative QC (pass/fail for reagent lots and rapid tests).

What Kanta QC covers

TypeUsed for
Quantitative QCChemistry analysers, haematology analysers, coagulation — tests with a numeric result
Qualitative QCMalaria RDT lots, HIV rapid test lots, urine dipstick lots — pass/fail validation

Setting up an analyser for QC

Before entering QC data, configure your analyser and its QC materials:

  1. Go to AdminLab Sections → select your section
  2. Click AnalysersAdd analyser
  3. Enter the analyser name (e.g. "Mindray BS-200", "Sysmex XN-450")
  4. Click QC MaterialsAdd QC material for each control level (e.g. Normal, Abnormal High, Abnormal Low)
  5. Set the target mean and SD for each level and parameter (from your control package insert or from your own laboratory's 20-day evaluation)

Entering a QC run

  1. Go to Quality & SamplesQC
  2. Click New QC run
  3. Select the analyser
  4. Select the QC material and lot number
  5. Enter the measured value for each parameter
  6. Click Submit

Kanta immediately checks the result against Westgard rules and displays pass/fail per parameter. A failed run is flagged in red and logged automatically.

Responding to a QC failure

If a run fails:

  1. Investigate the cause (reagent, calibration, control material, instrument)
  2. Take corrective action
  3. Run QC again
  4. Document the corrective action in the Notes field when submitting the repeat run

Do not release patient results from a failed analyser until QC passes. Kanta does not block result entry automatically — this is a laboratory policy decision — but failed runs are visible to the Lab Manager in the QC dashboard.

QC history

Click any analyser in the QC list to see its full QC history. Filter by date range, QC level, or test parameter. All runs are immutable once submitted.
