Refrigerator Monitoring

Monitoring refrigerator temperature logs and compliance.

Kanta's refrigerator monitoring module tracks daily temperature readings for blood banks, reagent fridges, and cold chain storage. All readings are logged with timestamps and staff name, creating a complete audit trail.

Adding a refrigerator

  1. Go to Asset ManagementRefrigerators
  2. Click Add refrigerator
  3. Enter: name, location (ward/section), type (blood bank / reagent / vaccine / general), target temperature range (e.g. 2–6°C)
  4. Click Save

Logging a temperature reading

  1. Go to Asset ManagementRefrigerators
  2. Click the refrigerator name
  3. Click Add reading
  4. Enter the temperature (°C) — read from the fridge thermometer
  5. Click Submit

The reading is logged with the current timestamp and your name automatically. No manual date/time entry required.

Frequency: Temperature should be logged at least twice daily (morning and afternoon) per most laboratory quality standards (ISO 15189, WHO). Kanta shows a warning badge if a reading has not been submitted in more than 14 hours.

Excursion alerts

A temperature excursion is when the reading falls outside the configured range.

  • Readings outside range appear in red in the temperature log
  • An alert is created in the notifications panel for the Lab Manager
  • The excursion is logged automatically — no separate incident form needed

What to do when an excursion occurs:

  1. Check whether the thermometer is functioning correctly
  2. Check the fridge door seal and whether the fridge was left open
  3. Document corrective action in the Notes field on that reading
  4. Notify the Lab Manager
  5. If a blood bank fridge: follow your facility's blood product excursion protocol

Temperature log history

Click any refrigerator to see its full temperature history as a chart and a table. The chart shows readings over the selected date range with the target range displayed as a shaded band.

  • Export the log as CSV or PDF for accreditation files
  • Filter by date range to produce a monthly report
