Lab Sections
Setting up laboratory sections (Haematology, Biochemistry, etc.).
Lab Sections organise your facility's laboratory into departments. Each section has its own analysers, QC records, TAT targets, and staff assignments. Sections are configured by a Hospital Admin.
Go to Admin → Lab Sections.
Default sections
When Kanta is first set up, common sections are pre-configured:
- Haematology
- Chemistry / Biochemistry
- Microbiology
- Immunology / Serology
- Point of Care
- Urinalysis
You can rename, add, or archive sections to match your facility's actual structure.
Adding a section
- Click Add section
- Enter the section name (e.g. "Molecular Biology", "Blood Bank")
- Select the section type (analytical, point-of-care, blood bank)
- Set the section head (Lab Manager or senior technician responsible for this section)
- Click Save
Adding analysers to a section
Each section can have multiple analysers:
- Click the section name
- Click Analysers → Add analyser
- Enter: name, manufacturer, model, serial number, installation date
- Set QC materials for the analyser (required for QC tracking)
- Click Save
Assigning staff to sections
Staff can belong to one or more sections. Assignments determine which work queue items they see and which section their QC entries are attributed to.
- Go to Admin → Users
- Click the user's name
- Click Sections → check the relevant sections
- Click Save
Test catalogue per section
Each section has a list of tests it performs. Go to Admin → Tests catalogue to assign tests to sections. Tests must be assigned to a section before TAT targets can be set for them.
